Allis Chalmers has a long history in the farm equipment business.

It began as a general parts manufacturer in Milwaukee, Wis., as early as the 1840s. In 1914, the company decided to move into the farm equipment industry. Here, it began to manufacture and produce an extensive line of Allis Chalmers tractor parts; everything from garden tractors to farm tractors. Its other products include agricultural tractors, implements, industrial tractors and simplicity garden tractors.

Throughout the decades of its existence, Allis Chalmers has acquired many subsequent divisions and smaller farm companies increasing its output of Allis Chalmers tractor parts. After many different sales and acquisitions, Allis Chalmers' farm division was sold to K-H Deutz AG of Germany in 1985. AGCO went on to disperse the manufacturing companies in 1988. Nearly a decade later, the original Milwaukee office of Allis Chalmers was closed in 1999. Throughout its existence, the Allis Chalmers office had become a landmark in the city of Milwaukee, Wis.

Currently, the only remaining Allis Chalmers division still in existence is Allis Chalmers Energy Inc. It does not specialize in Allis Chalmers tractor parts, yet it brings the quality of Allis Chalmers' products and services nonetheless.

During its run in the farm division, Allis Chalmers manufactured a large amount of tractors and tractor parts. Nearly every year saw Allis Chalmers introducing a new model to its repertoire. Its earliest model was the United model, which had optional low pressure pneumatic tires. The United tractor is now on display at the Hendricks Ag History Center in Woodland, Calif.

A Model B was a small tractor with a max of 20 horsepower. This model was popular in Great Britain. In 1940, Allis Chalmers upgraded its Model B with the Model C and an increased amount of horsepower. The Model G tractor introduced some innovative new designs which included a rear mounted engine allowing farmers to better observe their cultivation and seeding. Many of the Allis Chalmers tractors were popular and distribution was widespread outside of America. For example, the utility series had manufacturers in Italy by Fiat and in France by Renault. The compact series was a popular class in Japan.
