Massey Ferguson Tractor Parts: Farm And Garden

Massey Ferguson was a major manufacturer of various tractor vehicles and equipment originally built for agricultural use, but eventually were found to work quite well in garden settings. The company began its operations in Canada sometime in the 1960s and was officially called Massey Ferguson Limited.

The history of Massey Ferguson dates back to 1847 when the Newcastle Foundry and Machine Manufactory was established by Daniel Massey in Ontario, Canada. This is where pioneering mechanical threshers were assembled. Expansion came soon after when his son renamed the company as Massey Manufacturing Company, with the farm tractor as one of its major offerings. The 1879 labor shortage in Canada helped make the farm tractor of Massey a sought-after agricultural equipment.

In 1891, a merger with British-based A. Harris Son and Company Limited resulted in the formation of the Massey-Harris Company, which quickly rose to become the biggest farm equipment manufacturer in England. Among its many accomplishments were the introduction of a farm tractor that ran on four wheels, and entry into the U.S. market with the 1910 opening of its first factory outside of Canada.

Another merger, this time in 1953 with the U.S.-based Ferguson Company, resulted in the Massey-Harris-Ferguson, a company that eventually took on the current name of Massey Ferguson approximately five years later. By this time, Massey Ferguson was experiencing financial difficulties; the agricultural sector gradually took on a less important role in national development. This was of course apart from the competition being posed by rival companies.

Nevertheless, Massey Ferguson did not quickly fade into oblivion. It even got to purchase shares in several different companies, including an entire block of Italy-based Landini in 1959. Landini had previously dealt with Massey Ferguson for the building of various garden tractor models particularly suited for wine gardens and farms. Similarly, the year 1973 saw Massey Ferguson purchasing the Germany-based Eicher, another company that manufactures garden tractor models for use in many vineyard farms.

Still, despite its many attempts at survival, Massey Ferguson could not keep up with its various losses. In 1992, Fermec was created essentially as a buyout attempt on Massey Ferguson. Fermec unfortunately was eaten up by another company, Terex, which eventually cornered all major Massey Ferguson construction equipments, including those used to build garden tractor and farm tractor units.

Today, AGCO Corporation maintains control of many Massey Ferguson brand units. Surprisingly, despite being known these days as merely a popular brand name, Massey Ferguson has maintained its leadership in the tractor brand industry. Its various tractor models suit every type of agricultural field. Some, such as the Massey Ferguson MF-35 Deluxe of 1962, having several mower parts that make the equipment suitable for mowing residential garden lots. Additionally, other Massey Ferguson creations are known to be professionally-made mowers with excellent mower parts, just as with the MF 2927D.

The majority of Massey Ferguson tractors, even those carrying used parts, are quite easy to operate. Largely due to their rich history, they can easily be restored and even become collector's items. Otherwise, the used parts of most Massey Ferguson units are generally built to last a long time, keeping the rich Massey Ferguson heritage alive and kicking.
